Make it on the stove-top instead!
I buy kernels and popcorn oil, put them in a pot with a lid. Wearing oven mitts, apply high heat while swooshing the kernels and oil around in the pan. When it stops popping, it's done! Remove immediately and place in a bowl. I prefer to just add seasoned salt, but you do whatever works for you from there!
But be warned. Microwave popcorn will never taste the same.

I always make on the stove-top as well. The way my parents taught me is
How I do it too but with one small addition. When you add the bulk of the kernels after your test ones have popped take the pan off the heat and wait 30 seconds. This lets all the new kernels heat up to just under popping temperature so when you put it back on the heat they all go pretty close to each other.

Would you rather have burnt/raw popcorn or subpar popcorn?
