There is a another option (Zeihan mentions 3): Buffalo, an independent territory combining Saskatchewan and Alberta. I believe the only viable option for the people in Buffalo is a UDI, a Universal Declaration of Independence, as the current de facto administration (and the previous one for that matter) has shown the Deranged Dominion is broken. In fact the Prime Minister has declared that Canada is a "post-national state"!

In 1905 the Prime Minister at the time, Laurier, was concerned that creating a new province that was the size of Alberta and Saskatchewan would in time grow too powerful, and would challenge the eastern-focused powers. Turns out he was correct.

Partial transcripts:

3:37 every man woman and child [in Alberta] now pays about 6,000 dollars more into the federal budget than they get back in services and by 2020 that going to increase to 20,000 dollars

3:49 they [Alberta] and Saskatchewan are the only provinces that are youngish and Alberta getting younger

5:16 Canada is not a federal system like the United States, Canada is CON federal and because of the Quebecois moves of the last 30 years it is legal to secede, and nobody gets a say in it but Alberta
