There's a hostel in Leadville Colorado where year after year I met the most interesting people. They're right at the intersection of a lot of adventures: Leadville 100 ultramarathon and mtn bike race, continental divide trail, colorado trail, Race Across America (continous bike race), rock climbers, mountaineers, etc, etc. Just about everyone there had incredible stories to tell. Also the owner, "wild bill," is also a heck of a character.

one time i was walking down the street in Barcelona and i saw the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life in a short flowery dress, a woman so hot you could boil an egg in her mouth. as she walked past me, with a look on her perfect face that said I'm not remotely looking at you, dropped her phone and bent over to pick it up. this absolutely blew me away, as it did the random Spanish lad happened to be walking near me, we both said WHAAAHHHHOOOO laughed, shook hand, hugged and never saw each other ever again, it was the best friendship i ever had.

I was standing in a multistory parking garage five years ago waiting for someone. The elevator opens nearby and I see a young woman making a gun gesture with her thumb and forefinger (pointing at me). "Bang, I got you", she whispered in a strained tone. I was little surprised but just made eye contact and smiled. " I didn't think anyone would be here", she continued as the elevator doors close again and she disappeared from my life forever.

I was at the Hollywood Music Media Awards back in 2010, it was cool to be brushing shoulders with some celebrities, it was a red carpet kind of deal for independent artists. Anyway, met 3 people my age who were there just doing some photography work and we struck up a conversation then they suggested we take a trip down to the parkade to smoke out their car. Afterwards they invited my buddy and I back to their place in Malibu to party. All in all a great night. Never even got their names :)

I had something I needed to give to my sister but I could not find her so I thought that I could give it to her best friend to pass it on later. I ran up to this girl who I thought was my sister's friend saying "Caitlin Caitlin Caitlin where's Katie?" And the girl turned out not to be Caitlin. Upon realising I said "oh crap sorry" and ran away, fast.

Someone yelled at me as I walked by a bus stop last week. I thought they were asking for a cigarette, which I didn't have at the time. After explaining to me that he didn't want a smoke but wanted me to give him a bus pass, I told him I don't have a bus pass because I drive to work. He told me to fuck off, gave me the finger, and called me a faggot for not giving him a bus pass. I walked away.

These types of encounters often sadden me. Reacting with anger upon not receiving what is desired.

More than reacting with anger, the fact they demand something from you in the first place pisses me off.

Heh, I don't get some people. I had something vaguely similar happen to me while walking home a couple of months ago. I came around the corner of a strip mall, and this guy comes into view. He noticed me, and immediately shouted at the top of his lungs, "Gimme a fucking cigarette!". There was nothing to even identify me as a smoker, let alone someone that will give one to a demanding asshole. I had no words, so I just glared at him and walked past. What do you even say?

Yeah I am speechless sometimes at the way people act in public.

I was sitting on the patio in the back of a coffee shop sometime around 1993. Someone started rhythmically tapping a spoon or something. Another person joined in tapping a complementary pattern. Then I joined in. Soon enough, the entire patio had joined in and was spontaneously crafting a piece of rhythmical beauty.

When it ended, everyone cheered and then proceeded to go about whatever they were doing before.

That's just awesome. Simple yet beautiful.

It was pretty amazing to be part of something completely spontaneous between complete strangers like that. If it was a video on youtube, everyone would scream, "Fake!"

I was stranded at a Dead show 1000miles from home and managed to get rescued - I got a ride right to my front door by a stranger with a Pontiac hearse. Never saw him again, but 2 weeks later the same stranger rescued my parents who's boating trip had been stranded in the middle of nowhere by a storm. Hundreds of miles away. Impossible but true.

Ok, I know a guy who would do this type of thing, and drove that vehicle. Was it normal in color or painted with a band name on it? Do you remember anything else?
