Shaving is for women and people afraid to lose their job for looking like God intended.

If you need pointers, look up a guy named Mantic59 on youtube. He has some really good videos

Remember not to push.
Remember not to use shaving gel. Shaving gel (and canned creams) have chemicals to make your skin softer so that cartridge blades can scrape the skin. You don't need or want this with your safety razor. Once you stop poisoning your skin, your blade will work better. You don't have to buy fancy soaps to make a lather, a cheap glycerine from any shop will do for now, as well as a cheap brush.
Do several passes. It will take a lot longer at first, but once you get your technique down, and start trusting yourself to not cut yourself, you will be able to do this very quickly. First pass goes downward. Lather back up and do a pass going across the grain. Finally lather back up and do a pass going upward. This will result in the closest shave of your life, and depending on the growth rate of your hair might make it so you don't have to shave the next day.
Remember not to push.
Edit: Corrected a word.

Angle of the blade is important as well as technique when dealing with certain areas. Don't chip away shave like you do with multiblade setups but go for long passes and focus on letting the razor do it's job.
Several passes with the grain or against can result in in bbs (baby butt smoothness) but really it is all technique. Years ago I would shave for ultimate smoothness and just enjoy the entire process. Preperation, passes and scents as well as after care treatments. But now I focus on speed and results and generally can lather, shave and clean up all within a few minutes. It really is getting used to your equipment, quality of equipment, proper technique and experience. Also, don't use shave gels and aerosol lather, using a decent brush and good shave soap will give better results and won't dry out your face. And never skimp on blades. Find good ones and don't use dull blades as they are cheap and you should switch them up regularly.
Hope this helps.

Learn to stretch your skin correctly and control the angle better you nigger, Safety razors don't have guides to stretch your skin and place the blade on it at the ideal angle the way that cartridge razors do. You have to make weird faces at yourself, crane your neck at weird angles, and use your other hand to pull your skin taunt in order to get a proper shave. Also don't just run the razor over a spot to wipe the shave cream off and assume that part is done like you would with a cartridge.
Some people will actually do one pass where they are going strictly with the grain and then they relather and do a second where they're against the grain or from the side, or using other techniques to clean it up. There are also different techniques you can use on different parts of the face so that you're passing over the same area from different angles. For example: on the cheeks stretch the skin taunt and you do a kind of swooping motion, kind of like you're pivoting the razor like you're drawing a circld, but you actually move the pivot-point end because you'd cut yourself if it was stationary, you just don't move it as much as the swooping end. Another thing is you can quickly go up and down lightly shaving so you're moving over the same spot multiple times but aren't pushing hard or anything.
Find out what works for you, nobodies face is shaped the same way as yours so if you're fit with high cheekbones and a cleft chin you'll have to do things differently than a fat person with a mound of jiggly dough piled up on top of his shoulders
