Our two newspapers put them out by the dumpsters for free!

I can't say enough about all the uses for this paper from school, crafts, homemade gift wrap, origami, shipping/packing and many many more!

I remember seeing a pic in a craft magazine of how a dad had built a "log cabin" playhouse for the kids, out of newsprint cores that had been painted and coated with sealant. It looked good!

What's project paper? Do you draw combat scenes and emergency vehicles and hotrods on it like I did in Middle school?

Yes, that's a great source of large sheets of paper if you still have a newspaper printed in your town. My ISP took over the building after the paper shrunk to nothing, and is now printed in another city. Used to get 3 or 4 papers every morning and read them over coffee. Haven't subbed to a paper in 20 years now.

Oh, and they possibly sell the metal plates with an image of the pages, if they still use that process.

I'm not sure it'll be worth the trouble. Newsprint in an art store is dirt cheap as is. You'll get more for less, but you're eating the time it takes to get it.

If you live in a small town, you may have a local newspaper but not an art store.

I will say that lots of local papers are no longer printed locally. Many of the big newspaper companies print multiple cities in one location and just truck them over for morning delivery.
