I'm a fan of Secular Humanism . In its ORIGINAL form from the early 1800s. It was wedded to OBJECTIVITY (not the subjectivity of post modern corruptions of Humanism). It effectively enshrined Jesus' 'do unto others as they would do unto you' into a philosophical Ethical framework that could be equally adopted by the different (then warring) factions of Christendom (Catholic/Protestant/Lutheran etc) and also provided an ethical anchor for Atheism

It was Secular Humanism that ENDED the bloodshed of the catholic/protestant wars. Its the SECULAR CONTRACT that we must compel Islam to sign (and thus reform) if there is any prospect to avoid civil war with them (not so important in USA, but in the European theatre they have 2 decades before Demographics replicate the fragile/volatile Yugoslavia)

Both true and wise - in a certain sense. But that model become the 'an eye for an eye' - and then it becomes ' we'd better take an eye Before they take our eye '

And then 1400 years later your Sunni / Shia rift looks as eternal as ever

Yes, our public schools need to be purged of the liberal left. We need to bring back God and the Pledge of Allegiance! Time for our children to be taught by patriots NOT anti-Christian progressives!!

As an atheist, it is how it should be. Seperation of church and state. Gotta respect my right to not have your superstitions forced down my throat at a state or federal level.

im Christian but I hear you, absolutely. Secular Humanism is the glue that enables Christian and Atheist Westerners to coexist peacefully

secular humanism in its current iteration is just as much a religion as any God-professing religion.

I agree that people should have choices and nothing should be forced on them, including any form of Marxism. But the Jesus freaks (not the moderate majority rank and file religious people) have a huge ego and think they are the only ones who are right and want to force people to be "saved". People don't hear much from the moderate majority but they hear more from the Jesus freaks with the huge egos.

I'm a spiritual person. I'm not a religious person and for good reasons which I won't go into here.

You must be talking about groups like the Westboro Baptists or Jehovah's Witnesses, right?

In the elementary school year from 1979-1980 the whole school said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. My teacher was a WW2 vet who flew in the same squadron as the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atom bombs on Japan to bring an end to the war and the slaughter.

By the next year that had all stopped.

Please shut down the Dept. of Education and return control of education to local school boards. That should fix the problem.
