You can. You can also drive them on the lawn, but shouldn't. Some people take them across the water, as well.

It's better to have an ATV for summer. Four wheelers are quite popular here.

And, cops can get a snowmobile, but you'd be long gone by then. In an emergency, the police response time is like 45 minutes. So, you can just pull 75' off the road and give the cops the finger - if you wanted to. The reality is more like they're not going to bother you, unless you're an idiot.

Sometimes, game wardens and/or State Police are out on the trails with radar guns. That's pretty rare. They only have like 500 cc Polaris sleds, so many snowmobiles could still outrun them.

Thanks. I assume for water, you would want floats or something? Can the forward motion, alone, keep them out of the water? Seems like it could get expensive fast if it fell in.

You don't change the sled at all. You just hit the water at speed and don't slow down. If you slow down, you'll sink.
