This fits the bill and applies to more than studies. Someone I've dated was actually gluten-free for a decade, only to find out it was because she was mis-diagnosed in some official doctor's assessment.
They basically ended up saying "we got it wrong" after like 12 years of her thinking gluten was poison to her.
I knew it was bullshit because we loved grilled cheese sandwiches, but she'd say she shouldn't eat them... but guess what, if you can eat gluten and feel fine the next day, you're probably not gluten intolerant.

It makes allergy food cheaper for those that really need it. Let the chumps eat their gluten free bread to save the world.

So basically anytime some faggot doesn't like me eating honey roasted peanuts on a plane he just cries to the stewardess about some fake peanut allergy and then I've got to start eating shitty pretzels or something.

I'm not doubting it's real. I just doubt the frequency it's presented at is legitimate.

I lie about being allergic to cigarettes because the smoke burns my eyes, it smells like shit, the odor sticks to cloth.
Oh, and cancer.

I wonder what it would look like if they removed "gluten allergies" from the statistics. I'm willing to bet that's where a bulk of the make believe allergies are. Don't get me wrong. Many people can't have gluten, my sister included. But I'm willing to bet good money that it has one of the highest real to fake allergy ratios.

I'm allergic to mushrooms. How do I know? A few hours after eating them, my stomach feels like it's filled with broken glass. This persists for 12 hours or so. Fun, right? For a while I denied it and kept eating mushrooms, but the pain continued to get worse each time I did it, so I finally gave them up.

I hate these people. They cause the words allergy and dislike to be taken synonomously.

My ears itch when I eat avocado...am I allergic?
I get headaches from macadamia nuts...Am I allergic?
I get diarrhea from cherries...am I allergic?
No, I'm not. But I say I am to simplify my denial of those foods.
Actually I've never said no to avocado, the itchiness isn't bad.

If you start itching from eating avocado, that sounds like a histamine reaction. You're probably allergic. I'm that way with artichoke, which I also still eat on occasion. Side note: Do you get a slight electric sensation on your tongue, like licking a battery?
