Let's hope it holds up better over time than its namesake.

Yeah, it won't. It's a floating coffin. It's a fucking littoral combat ship that has next to no ability to engage in or survive littoral combat. The other class of LCS is similarly worthless. China has better LCS ships than these two boondoggles.

Care to expand on what makes this ship undequipped?

Thanks for sharing. This was a treat to watch. I had never thought much about how they launch ships like this, but it's very interesting. I had always assumed they used a dry-dock of sorts...perhaps they do for the much larger ships like oil tankers.

It was surprisingly graceful. :)

Funny that the ship named Detroit is worth more than the city itself.

Totally expected it to sink as an insult to Detroit.

Imagine being inside when it is launched.

Is it common for small things to break during these launches or have they perfected the art?

My guess is they launch the outer shell of the ship, but then add the more fragile parts (such as computers, weapons, munitions, etc.) after it's launched.

Though I'm not completely sure.

This is more or less spot on. Once the ship is afloat it still has months and months to go before it's ready.
