He's referring to Neanderthals which did in fact have a larger cranial capacity than modern humans. Archaic and early modern humans had larger brains than contemporary humans as well. From what I've read a bigger human brain doesn't necessarily equate to a smarter, at least in the academic sense, person and Einstein's brain is said to be noteworthy for other reasons. Based on what I've read it doesn't really seem like his brain was any different than an ordinary career academic.
