ThanQ, Patriot/believer! The govt, of course, has entirely different ends in mind. I have done street ministry for years, still am, and learned SO MUCH! Many folks on the street have made a LIFESTYLE CHOICE and i learned to respect that, not try to "fix" it. It's a fine line to love folks where they are at, and not knee jerk "rescue" them. They dont try to "get something from me", they DO know that i care, but will not enable destructive behaviors. The other challenge is not to let folks bleed churches dry with so-called "emergencies". One of the first things i ask is, "do you still have cable TV?" (to provide a model and not just talk, i too, do not have it, much less a TV, period!) 90 % of the time, no emergency, but instead long standing bad decisions. We will move heaven and earth to help people make better decisions and get on their feet, but if there is no reciprocal shift to work it out, we will not throw resources in the bottomless ditch. People will go church to church and bleed them, solid fact. Discernment is required. Most of the time the vast majority, of people are NOT victims-it is the million crappy lifestyle decisions that one must change. I, too, have my challenges, but am not expecting anyone to bail me out. The Lord certainly helps me-supernatural support. The Lord bless you and yours!

Helping is not the same as enabling.

People need to understand the difference.
