I remember a site unedditreddit was shut down a few years ago when reddit asked them to stop. I did notice it came back a while ago but it was a paid site or some shit. The fact that I need a third party app to see what they don't want me to see makes me not want to even be there.

I tried to build a system to find removals playing within all their rules, and they still kept finding reasons to restrict it, and now they ban people for running /r/modlog

But uneddit is a great tool; it will get you instabanned if you mention it on reddit though.

My understanding is they actually launched a trademark claim against unedditreddit.
The mods hate it: http://www.reddit.com/r/TheoryOfReddit/comments/18e8dd/unedditreddit_is_a_critical_security_threat_to/
Those security concerns are no longer valid with the way it seems to work now.
My http://snew.github.io client also provides similar functionality now but it doesn't let you dig deep into big comment threads yet cause I'm lazy.

Just using it on a couple high profile AMA's like Sir Ian McKellen and NASAs New Horizons team you can see tons and tons of deleted comments that should not have been deleted. I knew many comments and posts were being censored around the site but I did not expect there to be as many as there are. This is what Reddit calls "open and honest discussion". Or in other words only discussion they agree with is allowed. Even more reason for others to move to Voat.
Edit: I feel as though I should also post this on the other TIL subverse. I didn't realize there were 2 at the time I posted this.

With certain people gone, it's important to keep the sponsored promotions on topic.
What people don't realize is how big a marketing disaster the Woody Harrelson AMA really was. Making the sub an advertising playground was the next logical step for marketing after Rampart became a running joke and most people on the site only knew that the movie existed because of that train wreck AMA.

I've seen uneddit before, but I've always wondered how it works. Does it just crawl all the comments on reddit, backing them up as they're posted or something? That sounds incredibly resource-intensive...

I honestly couldn't tell you how it works, I stumbled upon it through someone else's old post about it and thought more people need to know of it. But the couple times I've used it so far it does seem to actually restore deleted comments.

It would be great to have a subverse for posting interesting on/offs of Reddit censorship using this tool.
Too bad I'm so dumb and lazy...
