Don't forget meds, prescription and over the counter, like aspirin, tylenol, cough syrup, cough drops, bandages, peroxide, vaseline, steroid creams and triple antibiotic creams for wounds. All available at the dollar stores. Vinegar is good to have on hand for cleaning and health and apple cider vinegar. They never go bad and you can always use them if things don't go crazy. Toothpaste and toothbrushes and soap will be helpful and unavailable after a while, again you can always use them.

Live in Florida and had an old fashion hand pump put on the well for power outages due to hurricanes. It cost me about $300 and the guy who dug my well did it for me. HUGE help to me and most of my neighbors after Irma came through.

This is so smart - in some areas of the U.S. you're not allowed to drill wells anymore.

Cash. In case the atm machines don’t open. The last place you want to be is standing in a queue. ONE MINUTE after SHTF is too late to prepare. IF SHTF happens, don’t go anywhere near the big supermarkets if you can avoid them. Suss out NOW small community supermarkets/corner stores. FIND where they are located in your immediate area and head there when SHTF rather than the big ones. Be prepared to pay OVER premium $ and don’t argue and make a scene. Just pay and move out. Don’t take out a roll of cash. Just what you think it might be. Blend in, don’t stick out. Make eye contact with the teller, accept his price, hand it to them discreetly and get out quick. Park you car not too far away but close enough to get to ASAP. Try to back car in so you can drive straight out. Do not bring small children with you! Teens are fine to help carry or wait with car. Sit your children down NOW, especially teens and explain what is happening. Going ‘over to billy’s for what ever reason is strictly out of the question once SHTF. The last thing you want is wasting time and fuel trawling the neighbourhood looking for them. For those of you that think this is over the top, just a few words. Children of preppers and PATRIOTS - even small children - already have this knowledge behind them. They have been prepped and know exactly what is expected of them, ie fill bathtubs with water, if teens, fill the car with gas, assemble BOBs, make sure all windows are locked, remain inside etc. where they should go and in many cases how to use a firearm. Also, if you have teens and their job is to fill car/s with gas, make sure they have access to cash. Put it in a designated area and under no circumstances replete this store.
There will be some A-Grade predators roaming about and a child (or an adult) that cannot take directions from someone who has spent years prepping, can put everyone else in extreme danger. Preppers know that to keep their own family safe, ignorant neighbours or friends that have spent years mocking the prepper are a liability and a danger to themselves and preppers will endeavour as soon as they can, bow out of their vicinity.
