Manning committed a crime by leaking the documents. Assange published them. Manning's sentence was commuted. It carried punishment of life in jail or death penalty. It would be poor optics not to offer Assange at least a commuted sentence.

If Assange published evidence of war crimes by Saudi Arabia or China provided by one of their citizens - would you support Saudi Arabia or China asking for his extradition?
