walkaway was basically a psyop, it was anecdotal stories to encourage dems to leave their party, however I think alot of those stories were Republicans or independents who were simply trying to use the movement against Democrats to demoralize them. I dont doubt that their were honest Democrats within that movement, but that movement was doomed to only ever be anecdotal.

Unfortunately trump (whether through his actions, but mostly through the MSM coverage of him) has severely polarized the parties, so Republicans have gone more red, while dems have gone more blue. The only ones trump would've honestly been able to convert was people who were near the center and still open to to being converted. It means that the voter pool that he can draw outside the Republican party is smaller than a president who isnt polarizing.

This election also doesnt necessarily mean anything, the red wave would've been if Republicans retained the majority in the house. It is extremely odd for a party to maintain control over all areas of the government, even during Obama's era, Republicans controlled the house and Senate I believe, so this election just means that it is basically like every other presidency.

And as ben Shapiro says this isnt necessarily a bad situation for trump, now that Democrats are in control of the house, trump has a legit punching bag. Instead of attacking other Republicans (attacking Republicans only help Democrats despite what people on here seem to think) , his focus should be purely the on the opposition. Now Democrats are going to be blamed for when things dont work out, instead of Republicans looking incompetent.

Also dont conflate this election with trump's election. Trump is an extreme oddity in elections, many of the people he drew from were still gonna vote Democrat come midterm elections. A union steel worker who voted for trump was still gonna vote for the union supporting dem come midterms. Or did you honestly think all those Bernie supporters suddenly had changes of heart and joined the Republican party?
