Buy it, get addicted, and destroy friendships! It's a MUST!

I came here just to say this! In fact, we should get a subverse started for it if there isn't yet one

Carcassonne might qualify as a popular game, but still a very good game that not everybody has tried. Works for all ages to, and can be learnt while playing.

I personally like "War on Terror" by Terrorbull Games. I feel like the small game studio needs more recognition for their works, but can understand how people may be turned off of their use of political satire as a basis for games.

Empire builder and those of it's ilk. basically building trains around various parts of the world (America, Europe, China, Russia/USSR, etc.) and other worlds (Colonized mars, Colonized moon) Really good game play for those interested in strategy

/v/boardgames usually has some great recommendations for newer and less-traditional tabletop games.

Attack On Tokyo one of my favourites, easy to learn and play and a ton of fun!

I think that's a great family game. The expansion really improves the gameplay too.
