I like to judge every candidate on their own merit, seems that 95% of those are Republicans, but yes, all red this time, the Dems need to taste utter defeat this November.

Hell, I've been a "Democrat" for years but am finally getting over to switching before the 6th. Didn't need to change it to vote for Trump!

The whole party thing is no good for me, its just two sides that pit us all against one another. We may get a clean Republican slate this time, but for how long before the next Jeff Flake or Paul Ryan shows up? Voting red for now, hope for more parties, better candidates in the future.

That's probably even better. They SURE don't see those votes going red. Might be even better idea to use their tactics agains't them. Lord only knows how many RINOs we have within our ranks?

Was Independent - switched to Republican to vote in Florida. Straight Republican ticket.

If asked about my choice of candidates I hemmed and hawed - said undecided.

But I trust The Plan,#45 and Q.

Registered democrat last couple of elections. Use to be libertarian and often typically voted that way. Voting straight republican for the first time ever in my life. If another pollster calls this time I'll say the same thing as last time: "voting for Hillary". LOL, or something similar. If the dems get control they will tear the country apart trying to take Trump down. Imagine Maxine Waters as the committee chair. Not a good look from where I sit.

Interesting that you came from the libertarian view and then switched to Dems? What was behind your reasoning (or emotions) at that time? Was it simply that you were dissatisfied / distrusting of the Reps for other reasons? They are a LOT closer to the libertarian views, after all. (I am not American but I am a libertarian myself, if I was to place myself in any of the categories. Above all, in political denominations, I am anti-globalist, anti-communist and pro sovereign strong countries in voluntary cooperation).

Remember that libertarians simply postulate that government should stay as far out of peoples lives as possible. It doesn't mean that the libertarians themselves don't harbor personal views on the various issues of life. Some of those personal views will tend toward the conservative, where they will align more with Republican/conservative candidates when no Libertarian is available. Other libertarians harbor more modern liberal views. These will tend to align with traditional Democrat candidates. Since the Dems have gone full leftist, they will lose these folk.

A lot of democrats didn't leave the democrat party, the democrat party left them.

They have gone waaay to far down left field for a lot of peoples comfort zones.

I think parties are a load of shit anyway. Each candidate should have to stand on his or her own merit and record. At this moment in history, Democrats=Communists, clear and simple.

Democrats=Communists, it cannot be explained any simpler than that. Tell that to a Beto voter in TX and they go ballistic, but that guy is far-left communism trying to hide in disguise.

I have been registered independent since I originally registered when I was 18. Simply because any candidate should stand on their own. I would never vote for someone BECAUSE they are republican or democrat.

I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.
