Buying a gun is a good idea. And remember to CARRY it, all the time.
It's also a big responsibility. It will help you reinforce good decisions. No, you don't actually need to spend three hours at the bar, then drive home drunk.
Take classes, learn to use it well. And have fun!

Up till about a year ago it was me making the decision based on my habits and clumsiness. Now I just have the drinking issue, and depression comes and goes.
I have always been more afraid that I would use it on myself, so I have made a responsible decision in my opinion.
Now, I feel like I am being a man child just waiting to get picked off. I am extremely aware of my surroundings at all times, but kind of worried I would get some fluoride-induced thoughts. If I can have a bottle of bleach and not be stupid enough to drink it, I think I can handle a firearm.
I hate the state of humanity sometimes, and it is because evil people are trying to inject civilized cultures with dark age mentality. It is backfiring majestically, and I love seeing people standing up to this satanic shit.
I've been low again after gun ownership, but not once have I devalue myself. I don't want you to get a gun under any thought you might use it on yourself, you have value unless of course you're a d indu. If you buy with any idea it's a way out don't. Than get help... whatever help it is you need

I lived with depression for a decade, buying a gun is empowerment, take your life and say you have value, and that value is that your life has meaning. Not trying to placate or trivialize but my gun ownership led to pride and strength for me, that I followed what I believe, self determination and self worth. You don't have to by but the internal freedom helped me move forward.

If you are serious about having something for home defense that can be used with a minimum of training (notice I did not say NO training), you can't beat a shotgun. Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 are the two most popular shotguns for that purpose, and used examples of either can be had at most gun stores for a few hundred dollars. Buy one with a stock, not the stupid birdshead pistol grips. Those are great on TV but uncontrollable and painful to your wrist in reality. Shotgun shells are so cheap and readily available that you can shoot whenever you feel like it, and hopefully it will be something you have fun doing so that you continue practicing until you are a good shot.

Just the fact that I even posted that is enough for me. Being raised by a liberal single mother is so destructive for a person I cant even begin.

Seems like you ARE beginning.

Beginning to what?
