I have this smith & wessen (https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/catalog/7185-smith-and-wesson-usa-sw1000-military-issue-first-production-run-switchblade-knife-in-box though in much, much worse shape) that I got for $10 at a gunshow years ago.
It's a great knife and its fun to open because it is a switchblade. It's basically just a standard pocket knife and i have so little into it that even though i don't wish to destory it, when it does get fully worn out it's no big deal.
I also have a benchmade switchblade that is a bit worse for wear that I got from a friend who is in the military with a bunch of stuff (gave him $150 for quite a bit, including a multicam gortex rain coat, bunch of mag pouches, uniform, revision sunglasses and goggles and a few other items). I'v carried both and both are great knives that I can use for just about anything.
I see what you mean by the Spyderco Civilian though, that blade does not look particularly useful for 'knife' things, though you could pry with it and like you said, use it as a flathead and open boxes.
lucky for myself, I have never needed to use my blades as weapons... I do refuse to pay the people's republic of illinois about $400 for a CCW though...

yea, it really was.
IIRC the gortex coat itself is a good $100+ item surplus, and the one I got was still new in the bag with tags and all. also the revision goggles are a good $50 on amazon (and they have been great for airsofting).
He just wanted to get rid of stuff, said he was donating the rest to the on base thrift shop because he got a new set of all of that every time he deployed and he has been a few times now.
