Thank you for the advice. My father used to read me the Old Testament every night. I spoke to him on the phone the other day and he advised me to read both Old and New Testaments, in particularly the Book of Psalms, which helps him get through tough times. All this outside noise is addictive and distracting from the inner work that has to be done. May God help all of us with this and may God smile upon our country and upon our great leader and his band of patriots. God Bless you too.

Your father is wise. David wrote the book of Psalms. I find him interesting because he was close to God when he was young (slaying Goliath) became King and Israel prospered. David's human side comes out when he sins against God (taking Uriah's wife then sending Uriah out to be killed in battle). David fears that God has left him and writes many of the Psalms praying and repenting. Many of the psalms are beautiful prayers for God's help in this fallen world. God's mercy is greater than our sins if we repent with all our hearts. Thank you for reminding me to read the Psalms.

Thank you for the context. I cannot speak for my father but I know that I have sinned- many times. It is hard to forgive oneself and move on without dwelling. Am blessed to have supportive family, friends, and these chat rooms. My parents have been humbled by life and now it is my turn- fly too close to the sun and your wings get burned. To paraphrase someone (am butchering this am sure), when life is wonderful you don’t look to God as much as you do when you are suffering. So, suffering turns you back to God. I like how Jesus finds virtue in the virtueless. If he can see our hearts, he knows what lurks there and loves us anyway.
