God damn I like that line of thinking. We need to meme that into reality. Nothing hurts a kike quite like fucking with it's illegally obtained shekles.

Even if it breaks even, it's not profitable because it costs tax money to enforce IP, a hidden externalized cost that IP wankers don't bear.

if an IP is not profitable, maybe the government should not be protecting it with copyright.

They make no profit because it's immediately reinvested in expansion. Most large companies get credit lines and operate as close to 100% as they can. They have teams of people to ensure that credit line is increasing so they can borrow even more.

All that protection is to keep them growing, larger they get larger government gets on income and sales tax. One hand washes the other.

They offshore the profits.

Huge loop holes created by our beloved politicians.

Isn't it amazing how people that contribute the least have the most say.

In Canada, small and medium businesses provide 80% of the money the government runs on, yet it's multinational corporations every politician jerks off under the table. And idiot leftists help them attack those small businesses as if they're doing the harm. And they do it from Starbuck's, where the multinational landlord gets artificially inflated rent that's driven commercial rents out of the reach of humans. Exporting cash with little return is Canada's main industry. Starbuck's in the USA is hardly returning anything to the USA either.

Yup. If you ever make it there, take your piece off of licensing and merchandising. P&A is usually inflated to be equal to production budget, and both numbers can magically grow to swallow almost any amount of box-office profit.

Hard to write a definitive play-book, but as much as possible you want your money tied to things you can touch. Or, more importantly, things you can physically count. It's the same for publishing and music: there's no money in creating music, it's all in performance, so think about how can you get paid per performance vs. per creation...? (Like it used to be in the early days.) Get an agent you can trust (if there is such a thing... maybe, "mostly trust..."), tell them what you want but think long-term.

If you can manage it, it's the difference between George Lucas sitting on $5.5 billion today and Gilbert Taylor (DOP, Star Wars) having to work every day of his life.

For industries like hollywood that engage in such massive tax evasion, we should move them to a simple revenue based taxation collection.

That was the past. Now Hollywood hires SJW to make the films unwatchable so they really are non-profitable.

New line "went bankrupt" 5 years after maing $6billion on lord of the rings.

When you make so much money that even holiwood accounting cant hide it all. Well then you just sell the company.

Same for star wars shit. And marvel.

When you have to sell to a bigger company to hide all the money.

I don't get how that can be possible.

It has been mentioned that the studios make a blockbuster or two, but then have several 'duds' that fail to make money. But that isn't the issue. I don't think the government cares about whether a movie makes a huge profit or not - the movie cast and crew do.

What should happen is that the studio pays taxes on the overall profits of the studio - as all companies do - with profits and losses summed together.

What should also happen is that contractually the losses from a different movie should never engage the profits of a contracted movie. That is an illegal move, and should be investigated completely.

If someone works for me and I contract out 10% of the profits on one product, and that does very well, I can't turn around and say 'Oh, these 7 other product ideas didn't fare well, and so the company has no profit this year - you don't get your money.' As for the company, overall I would lose money, and not have to pay taxes on any profitable items seeing as the overall net is negative.

That is contract fraud. Now, I'm sure the Hollywood types are quite adept at the legal wrangling needed to rob everyone, but it should still be an issue.
