If state has no free speech protections for employees then the employer can fire him.

Of course, we can call up the station and complain. No goats will but that's besides the point.

The OP should have provided contact info.

Even if they had free speech restrictions, I doubt they'd apply while he's on the job and representing the company.

Some states have protection for employees free speech...the laws usually don't allow for employees to do things that hurt the company tho. Since he's not in the "lime-light" I think he would be OK to wear a hat.

I bet he didn't know about that new rule about the hat till they fired him. I bet they made it up as he was reporting. If he kept the rules he was given when hired that one was not listed at all. I suspect a lawsuit coming soon.

Not sure about that station in particular, but that's a general rule in journalism that you're supposed to be detached and not take part in what you're covering. It's a hazy rule and it gets broken all the time, but I don't blame them for enforcing it.

Kind of like the Watchers in the Fantastic Four series.

This is one of those times were I have to go against the grain and agree with the TV station.

Reporters shouldn't be showing bias one way or another. If the faggot was wearing an "I'm With Her" hat, the station should've fired him too.

The fact that they're traditionally liberal-biased shouldn't change the above one bit. We want fair and balanced reporting, not bias we agree or disagree with.

Same. Reporters are there to report on the story, not to be the story.

You guys have such an innocent view on the propaganda makers. It's cute.

Sounds about right to me. The NYT fired a woman covering the occupy protests because she got involved, what he did here is arguably the same thing.
