like cool mild winter/spring weather in the early part of their growth, summer sunlight, water 65° to 77°F (18° to 25°C) no pests, no stormy weather, tolerate temperatures higher than 75°F. as long as soil has nutrient, cure on dry ground for a few days, weather permitting, not all are the same different type of Onions different 'species' grow better in different zones on our planet, go for a compost or manure or nitrate based fertilizer rather than a sulfate based fertilize soil

Thanks! I don't even have to do anything, then...? They'll come on their own spontaneously next year?

Onions love cold.
Just try to get them through spring, or eat them like scallions now.
Also, when your little green balls on your cilantro harden and dry, you can save them as seeds. Or eat them green, they're delicious.

Oh... Do you think they could last through snow fall? sry 4 stoopih queshun...
Could i chop off the green parts and leave the rest in the soil? Would it self-seed?
Oh, nice! Thanks (: i only got a sprig or two from the cilantro (i grew that from seed, by the way!!! :D ), so i guess I'll be waiting on those seeds, hehe. We use them a lot in our cooking. Didn't know you could eat them while green. Neat!

I also forgot to mention that you can cut back the green and it will come back. Sorry about that.

The onion should make it through snow, mine did last year and it was a cold one!
As for the cilantro, you might want to seed more now (if you still have some). It likely bolted (went to seed/flower) because of hot weather. Now that things are cooling, you should have a lot more leaves and it won't get all lacey.

i grew mine in spring and summer
if they go to seed dont bother trying to eat them
i think the white got used up by then
but then you have more for next year
plus you can always eat the green part
om nom
