I know it involves a lot of insulation, more than an over-the-top heat source. Here's a fun article about insulation in Antarctica.

Well, they used to have a nuclear reactor, but these days it is fossil fuels like most homes here.

No. This is one way the workers down there are entertained. Wouldn't you experiment if you were down there?

Does anyone find the actual living of humans in some sort of elaborate living conditions in such difficult climates, amazingly neat and just plain cozy?

Here is a place on earth that it really does feel like God made it specifically so we could NOT live there, and yet, there we are!

The writings of Admiral Byrd make it sound amazing though... amazing enough to risk life, death and liberty one day to go find what he found. And see it for myself.

Antarctica wasn't always a frozen wasteland. Btw, no one lives there on a permanent basis. It is all relatively short-term contracts. Most run from Sept/Oct to Jan/Feb, which is the busy summer season. A few crazy people accept year contracts, and I know one guy who was down three seasons in a row, but he got a short break between seasons in NZ.
