Try pre-cooling your room as part of a bedtime ritual. Temperature is an oft overlooked common contributor to sleeping problems.

I've heard oxygen is a good factor as well. Sounds like opening the windows during a cool Autumn day for a few hours before bed would make for some good sleep.

I do recommend enjoying evening air. It often has a distinctly different smell as well.

It's kind of hard to get to the optimum temperature of cold when the hot box next to you attaches itself like a leech.
