Agreed. It's a major red flag when scientists start talking in absolutes. Because it is amazingly arrogant to assume we know everything when the only thing we do know is that we don't.

No scientist will ever claim we know everything. There are, however, things we know with a high degree of confidence. People who just randomly clamor "but we don't know anything for sure so I can make up whatever I want" are ridiculed and ignored, as they should be. Of course, they take this as evidence that science is close-minded, while it is just being sane.

That's not what I'm speaking to. I'm speaking to areas of knowledge where experts know there is contention and question and yet they assert their position as the only possible postiion in absolute terms. Which is, of course, completely dishonest. This is common.
