There has been so much shit slinging lately that this is relatively benign. Yishan's Maury-esque attacks on Ohanian will become legend.

Does kn0thing actually contribute anything positive to reddit inc? Or does he waist all his time getting coked up and trolling anyone and everyone on that website, and later posting "I'm sorry" followups when he sobers up? Why exactly is he still on the board?

Edit: that whole site is nothing but drama. Fuck that place.

No, he's one of the worst ones. I mean, think about it. He owns and runs a company dedicated to astroturfing sites like Reddit.

Upvoted is a solid newsletter. It's a pretty minor thing, though.

I just listened to that episode of upvoted, as I was feeling a little more ok with reddit when they brought back Steve as CEO. 'oh hay they listened and did something.... maybe Alexis isn't that bad'. Honestly while their podcast is a little bit of a circlejerk, it is well produced and mostly interesting. Even though Alexis said some dumb shit in the early days of the victoria clusterfuck, he apologized and I thought maybe he gained a little self awareness.

Then I went and looked at the subreddit post about the podcast and saw this.... then I saw the top post in r/technology about Alexis throwing Ellen Pao under the bus.

Its a total shit show. Voat please please stay up consistently so I can put down permanent roots and not fall back in to my reddit addiction.

I refuse to listen to the podcast or sign up for their newsletter. I have been very interested in hearing from those who do. I was always wondering if it really honest with the real ongoings of reddit, of if it was just an uplifting fluff piece. Were you listening to the podcast during the weeks of the FPH ban and Victoria firing? I'm just wondering if there was much mention of it and how they tried to spin it off. Thanks!

The newsletter I skip because although it might have some interesting things in it... once I saw a video of a surfing squirrel in it I was done.

As for the podcast, they did put out one that tried to address the Victoria thing, and the episode prior was recorded earlier, right before the FPH banning. The issue with the Victoria one was exactly that although they addressed complaints about moderator tools, they didn't address the underlying issues that keep coming up. The issues that were thought to be regarding Pao, now which seem to really be focusing on Alexis were not addressed and the actual firing of victoria was not addressed. They spent most of that episode talking to an engineer working on new moderator tools. It was dissipating.

The prior episode, which really focused on how they should be maintaining and growing reddit, and issues of what it should be, was more interesting.

I still recommend the podcast, they interview some very interesting people. Skipping the reddit circle jerk at the begining and end and just focusing on the people they interview.... its pretty fantastic.

It's hard but it gets easier...I have been on Reddit for a total of about 5 minutes in the last week...and hours on Voat.

I listened to that podcast for like 5 of 6 episodes, but unsubscribed for the amount of bullshit positivity in the face of adversity that went into EVERY story. Whenever I saw it I was thinking, "time for my weekly dose of Reddit/liberal techie propaganda!"

I can see the reddit propaganda, its always a little much. If they toned that down a bit they could have a really good show there.... but I think you might be using the word 'liberal' a little liberally there.
