Didn't "The Twikie Diet" professor also take multivitamins, and drink whole milk?

Long term focus on just calories opens you up to malnutrition. Some deficiencies can have VERY big consequences on your health that can't be easily corrected.

Long term obesity is what causes VERY BIG problems. It would be very hard in the civilized world to suffer from malnutrition just from eating fewer calories.
Long story short- I stopped saying "I can't eat that casserole because it's 700 calories," and started saying "uh, oh, better budget 700 calories so I can eat that casserole." Lots of fat asses don't know when to stop, focusing on only calories helped me learn.

I suggest you learn the truth about how your body deals with fat(s). Using your body's ability to burn fats INSTEAD of carbs/sugars is much easier to maintain.

In the absence of carbohydrates, and sugars you body will literally switch to burning FAT(s) to do everything. Your body flicks a switch and you go from Glycogenesis, and begin Ketogenesis.

You literally eats fats ... 80% fat, 18% proteins, ~2% carbs (or less).

Bacon, butter, meats, eggs, whipping cream, avocados, steaks, and others as long as you eat according to that percentage above.

Yeah, when my VA Dr. told me I needed to lose weight, something I already knew, he also made me an appointment with a VA Nutritionist. Right away I bought a book by Dr. Atkins and started following the instructions. This was before they called it a "keto" diet. By the time my appointment with the nutritionist came around, I had already lost 50 pounds. When I told the nutritionist what I was eating every day I'm pretty sure she thought I was lying. She told me what I "should" be eating and I just politely listened and went on my way. I lost about 20 more pounds on Atkins and then went back to a more normal diet, although I still watch the carbs. I do some brutal kettlebell routines and watch what I eat and I have kept the weight off. It seems like, to me, the most important thing is to do away with the processed sugar. You really have to watch, it seems like they put it in just about everything!
