Do you think a simple pane of glass that has been etched by a laser could suffice as a replacement for the standard optical storage?

With more recent advancements in glass for the purpose of cell phones, I think it's possible, but I think we have plenty of carbon laying around (as well as plenty of fucking diamonds that (((some people))) that diamond etched storage is feasible.

It would be worth trying. Could the diamond be lab made and still work for storage? I should probably just do my own research into. Interesting stuff.
