Great song, especially apropos around this time of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere, I suppose I should mention out of respect for my Aussie friends).

PS, @cynicaloldfart thank you for the insights into songs posted on /v/Music.

You're welcome. It's a passion and obsession. If you haven't seen this yet, it's a site TheBuddha and I have developed to showcase the early evolution of Rock and Roll. Check out the "About This Project" tab for a more in-depth explanation of our intent. We're posting a song a day currently (16:30 ET) and posting links here.

This particular song isn't scheduled yet for at least the next month but here is a preview.

This was a collaboration between John Sebastian, The Lovin Spoonful's bassist Steve Boone, and the frontman's brother (and non-group member) Mark Sebastian. Mark was 15 years old when he wrote a poem that John used as the basis for the song - John especially liked the part that went, "But at night there's a different world." "That song that came from an idea my brother Mike had". John Sebastian recalled in June 2014: "He had this great chorus, and the release was so big. I had to create some kind of tension at the front end to make it even bigger. That's where that jagged piano part comes from."
