I like your positivity in thinking that there are more people who are aware than is obvious, though I would suggest we have a problem of ignorance in that the inherent problem with ignorant people is that they just don't realise they are ignorant. (But then again if that is an accurate analysis I guess that means maybe I am an ignoramus too?)

Ignorance is constantly viewed as a bad thing but I believe it plays an important role in society. I mean if we all had the intelligence and power, would we use it for the greater good? From what I've observed (influenced by my environment), we are a social but selfish species. And then there's the possibility of some not being able to handle the truth, who knows what it would do to there mental health.

In order to maintain order, the mass needs to be led by the few. The problem comes when the goals of the few aren't as honorable as one would wish.

Hmmm, interesting view, although I am inclined to ask if you think that the selfishness of our species is merely a product of our conditioning? You know how society seems to be all about 'winning'. Winning in tests, sports, politics, or life in general is the main message we are forced to accept from birth. If you don't win then you're just a loser. This means we get people who justify their selfish ways as part of this such as bullies or politicians who never seem to view themselves as being wrong or mistaken (a sign of weakness) in how they conduct themselves.

I think you could be right about some of us not being able to handle the truth, but I believe it is not up to anyone else to censor this in order to 'protect' others less secure in their minds. If we want a better world I feel we need to include everyone (who wants to join) in the ride, but that we need to have all the factors out in the open in order for people to decide.
