Yep. I enjoyed The Daily Show and Colbert well enough under Bush when the criticism was needed, but I started to notice them using their trickery under Obama, and they're right that John Oliver goes way further with it. They've gotten so good at deflecting with mockery that they can't self analyze anymore and it's killing their movement.

Right. It was comedic open season on Obama, just ask the clown (rodeo). Remember when John Stewart criticized Obama? As I recall he backpedaled on it real quick.

They sell it to the people who consider themselves to be young and hip. You can tell by the teen-style rebellious ambiance of the show.
This is one of the methods they use to make naive people feel like they're clever. The sad reality is that they are being patronized by an actor following a script.

You are thinking that everyone agrees that John Oliver is awesome. I find him to be grating. I can't watch him for more than a minute.
