Very interesting observation, although I would argue that all entertainment news shows, including conservative ones use tactics like this.

Yep. I enjoyed The Daily Show and Colbert well enough under Bush when the criticism was needed, but I started to notice them using their trickery under Obama, and they're right that John Oliver goes way further with it. They've gotten so good at deflecting with mockery that they can't self analyze anymore and it's killing their movement.

Right. It was comedic open season on Obama, just ask the clown (rodeo). Remember when John Stewart criticized Obama? As I recall he backpedaled on it real quick.

Older meme, but it checks out.
And shows like this and Colbert are where most vocal celebs and media gobs get their "news" too.

Sounds like Colbert's writers are using BF Skinner's book Beyond Freedom and Dignity as their guide. Skinner used rats to develop his stimulus-response formulas, but someone should tell smarmy Colbert that we are not rats. He and Bill Maher are though and I cannot stand either.

There's been some shit 4chan posts but this one is up there. Starts by saying he's a psychologist, so he knows what he's talking about. Yeah right. Then a current affairs satire show is somehow bad for repeated use of current affairs. Facts in quotes to make you doubt they're facts. For some reason absurd metaphors in a satire show is bad, so is laughing. He has you hooked now because you don't like the show because you don't like your "side" being laughed at so he can go into a strawman argument about it. You're left confirming what you though before, "the media" is against you. The usual victim complex, everyone is against you so you have to stay strong and defiant against anyone who has a different opinion, anything that comes from the "left" is bad just because it came from "them". And idiots lap it up.

In another thread people will be laughing at psychologist, they're all conmen, because they said something voat doesn't like.

Did Oliver ever send Trump the money to run for President like he said he would.
