Yeah, I figured I'd let our users know and make sure that we're as transparent about things like that as we can possibly be. I take my duties seriously, especially with regards to preservation of personal information and security. I didn't offer this role lightly, but with some forethought about what it'd entail as far as skill relearning and time commitments.
WordPress is also notoriously finicky with security issues, so I'm on-top of that and keep things updated and upgraded, as well as have the thing locked down as much as possible.
There's still changed to come - but those will all be behind the scene.
Sometime, probably not in the not-to-distant-future, I'll be doing a big site backup and then rolling out a test of some great new features. My goal is along those lines of people asking questions and asking for specific research topics.
If you've not noticed, one of the first forum categories created (and it's barren, but there for those who may wish to use it) is a place for people to make requests to have a song researched or an artist researched for an article. I'm not just hoping people ask questions - I'm hoping that users also hop in and help with the research aspects, continually improving and increasing the body of knowledge.
In those regards, I've been examining a few ways to facilitate collaboration between users. I'm expecting (I still need to do a code review and then look at implementation to ensure it's viable without causing undue clutter or mayhem) to add a bunch of functionality that will go along ways towards this - including adding some social features with which to base them on. There will be, ideally, user-groups and they'll have the ability to create and manage their own content within those groups, administer those groups, and work together to create.
Granted, it's a bit early (a small userbase) to do so, but I'd rather have it created and working - and knowing it's there and functional - before deciding to try to add it later and being frustrated that it's not achievable with my skill set. I also will continue to observe (as well as I can) usability issues and adapt those to make the site more navigable and more easily understood. Right now, it's still pretty clunky in places, but I am hoping to smooth some of those edges out.
It's going to be a process of continual refinement and that's okay. I ain't scared.
Also, I hope you continue to create new content - to go with the old content - as time allows or your interest piques. I figure that I'll have time to also create some content, but right now my time goes mostly towards administration duties.
Sort of on-topic:
The site is actually quite popular, given the age and the limited exposure. I'm pretty impressed.
I may go so far as to get some social media accounts so that I can tie the sites to those. I've never had a Facebook account before, but I'm considering it.
I do need to send you an email, at some point. I've just not gotten to it, as it's not too terribly important. I figure I'll combine it with a longer email. ;-) You know me and my novellas!
