Not offended at all, this bugs me as well. I’m 35 and was diagnosed at 19 and I’ve desperately tried over the years to find ways to get better but I truly do have clinical depression and I see so many people say they have it but they just self diagnosed themselves. And it makes it hard for me to be taken seriously as truly mentally ill. I do think some people are just faking it.

For me my depression stemmed from several years of abuse and neglect. Even if the abuse and neglect was over with years ago, the damage has been done.

I struggle with self esteem issues and sometimes when a situation or someone comes up that reminds me of the abuse I endured, I go back into that black hole of depression and wanting to die just so I don’t have to deal with the pain anymore.

It takes years for abuse victims to stop being depressed. I give myself maybe another 5-10 years of being abuse/neglect-free to finally stop feeling like I’m back in childhood suffering.

It pisses me off to no end when people cry about being depressed and they NEVER went through abuse or situations that actually causes depression (aka living in oppression, war torn countries, being in a cult, having their lives in danger, etc.)

Lack on human affection, talking through screens, avoiding looking into anyone's eyes, growing up being told not to feel anything, lack of physical activity. There's a host of real reasons for depression.

That being said, the majority of people aren't clinically depressed, they're just unhappy at times and thus "I'm depressed" as in not dealing with what human feelings they're experiencing at the time. I have a whole lecture on why everyone claims to have some type of mental illness, but it's too much for this type of forum. The gist is we don't know how to feel.

It's because of the massive popularity of social media. Social media is truly a disease. You see all these people doing well and living lavish lifestyles, building businesses, doing big things and you compare yourself to them and you feel inadequate. That is why most people are depressed.

Delete social media and you live a happier life. I truly believe that. Delete that shit. All the instant gratification and mental masturbation shit has to go. Delete Snapchat, facebook, Twitter and Instagram and I guarantee you'll be happier. The only thing I use is Facebook and that's for business. I don't look at what my friends on there are up to because I don't care, and even if I did, how does their life affect me positively in any way? It's just a net negative.
