I'm new here. Yesterday I made an account after a few days of lurking, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but was this site more popular than it is now? I like this site, which is why I've been posting, compared to reddit, where I have never posted.

Reddit is slowly breaking down. To the occasional user, it seems to be doing fine, but people who spend a lot more time on the site, are losing their faith in it. Reddit had a lot of recent censorship issues, lot of moderators abusing their power, etc. Their admins don't care to get involved unless it gets into mainstream news like here, and will allow censorship to occur as long as it doesn't interfere with the money coming in. They also have a hierarchy built there, and so if you criticize anyone higher up in the chain, the admins will find a reason to shadowban you. Shadowban is when you are banned but never really find out, other than because you don't get any responses or upvotes/downvotes to your postings. People up the hierarchy also happen to moderate a ridiculous amount of subreddits (especially the defaults), and therefore hold a lot of say on what content is allowed on reddit.

There are many other reasons like how it is turning into a platform for advertising, new changes that take away more power from the users (like hiding downvotes/upvotes), etc. So every time these things happened, people kept looking for alternatives to reddit, and finally we have one after a long wait.

So now every time there is a new reason to distrust reddit, our users share this website as an alternative, and many people flow in. /r/Conspiracy folks were the most distrustful of reddit's intentions, and that was the first wave of users. Now because reddit started banning subreddits that posted content related to the fappening (because news about those subreddits reached mainstream media), and that's why we got another wave of users. So it will certainly keep growing as Reddit gradually falls apart, and we just have to keep this alive on a constant, so that this site can take off.

I am here because of the fappening and all that, and so far I'm enjoying it here. I've become aware of the issues on reddit a while back, but didn't think much of it till they banned the fappening and tried to say it was the right thing to do. They milked a lot of money from those subs then banned them and that was the last straw for me, although I use reddit to find good sales still on video games. I just wish there was a bit more activity on these subs, but let's grow this site, and hopefully not have powermods and shitty admins. I believe Atko is an admin and he seems active and friendly so that's a very good sign.
