What is this shit article? Define "rural". I live where everybody has to work the land and we are all fit as a fiddle. There are no fats in the sticks. Bitch looked at walmart pics and wrote this shit article. It is only in the city you see the mouth breathing disgusting sentient piles of goo. I guarantee the author is a fucking fat bitch.

The funniest and saddest thing is how the goalposts always move. The entire article is written with an underlying assumption that obesity is the only weight related issue worth worrying about. Almost every warning that was stated about obesity happens with "just" being overweight too. Or even overfat. But as usual the smallfat majority is pandered too and given free reign to feel like they're in any way different than the obese.

Not suprised at all. Nearly everyfuckingbody on my Fatbook feed from the rural area where I spent my grade school years -- in California, mind you -- are fucking gas giants, not just fat, not just class 1 obese or even 2, but going on realistically considering whether they should write into My 600 Pound Life for free WLS. And when I'm back "home" to visit my long-suffering shitlady godmother, for example, they have the gall to look at me like I'm a freak.

Live in SoCal can confirm rural and valley areas are inhabited by planets. We should throw them in the pastures with the other livestock or horses and have them be eaten or become fertilizer before next fire season. They are a hazard, like walking fuel tanks, waiting to be ignited and cause another Thomas fire that happened in ventura.

What a fatlogic article
Sure BMI doesnt accurately portray Dwayne johnson, but it will correctly get 99,9% of everybody else right. To state "obesity rates might not be as bad as portrayed" on that claim is ridiculous
Isn't Reuters reputable? Why are they caving for such nonsense? Editor didn't proofread?
[–] NothingExtra ago
Yes this part:
One drawback of using BMI is that it doesn’t distinguish between muscle and fat. Therefore, obesity rates might not have been as high as they appeared, particularly among the adults.
Made me wonder who on earth wrote this article, and why they want to protect fee-fees. It's damn wel clear it isn't body builders skewing the stats here.
[–] mybrotherans 1 point 1 point 2 points (+2|-1) ago
They love to ignore that it's actually worse when accounting for body fat percentage. BMI is very forgiving.

After taking some courses on nutrition and other health sciences, one key factor that links obesity and health issues is central adiposity, aka the abdominal fat, aka the bad kind when in huge quantities. Most fat logicians will go out of their way to deligitimize BMI by finding the most strawman excuses while completely ignoring the consequences of excessive visceral fat.

The type of rural person who gets fat and the type of reporter who's looking to make a 'story' out of people outside the city both seem to agree on that point. That food desert means needing to stock up on tons and tons of unhealthy food. Where the pantry of everyone I knew in areas where food was scarce had things stocked out like a bunker. Tons of healthy but non perishable items. Beans, rice, etc etc.

I'm a PA-C that is practicing in Iowa. I can confirm, rural folks are fat as hell. I hate treating them.
"My knees hurt!"
"Your meniscuses are wearing down due to your weight."
"Just give me something for the pain! I took something after I dropped my third calf...parco...perla...perco something?"
