1) an HDMI cable for your computer and a hard drive full of movies and TV shows. If you have Netflix or something similar the hard drive will be a little less necessary, just as long as you have some entertainment that isn't the overpriced hotel pay-per-view.

2) a bag of your favorite coffee. Most upscale hotels will usually have something nice, Starbucks etc., but if their coffee isn't up to your standards it's nice to have some that you know will be.

3) a bottle of your painkiller of choice. Store brand ibuprofen is what I usually use, but whatever you think works best for a headache or some muscle pain.

If your company is as cheap as mine was you will want to bring your own pillow, and towels. I always got to stay in the cheapest place available and having a decent pillow and a towel made for someone bigger than a six year old made a big difference.

Lightweight everything possible without quality compromise within reasonable prices.

A couple of quick ideas, see if they might apply to your particular needs.

Laundry bags to organize clothing, to speed up packing and unpacking.

Lightweight hooks, that can go on doors, or clothes rack, can buy at dollar store.

Small bluetooth speaker. Small earphones maybe with integrated microphone.

A few things that I always pack:

A couple of plastic carrier bags, for keeping your dirty laundry separate from your clean clothes.

An iPad with a sturdy case. Small, light, does everything you'll need on the road. Trip advisor app is very useful for finding a decent place to eat. Don't forget your charger, either.

Some granola bars or the like. I've never once had a good breakfast in a hotel.

Noise cancelling headphones. Helpful if you get stuck with noisy neighbours / a room on a busy corridor, and they're great to have on flights.

A night light...i find that the bathroom lights are so bright when you get up in the middle of the night to pee. Also, I always travel with my nesspresso machine...can't stand weak coffee.

When do you need earplugs? I don't usually feel like the room is particularly noisy.

Typically, you don't. But when a bunch of drunk delinquents decide to take the party to their room at 2AM, and you have to get up at 6AM, you'll be glad you brought a buck's worth of foam tranquilly.
