I was able to confirm the money has been transferred to the account as of this morning.

Papers get signed on Monday!

The short version is I'm pretty remote - but I have a neighboring farm that's about 1/2 mile away. I've been here for a decade. I've grown pretty close to them.

They wanted to hand the farm down to their kids. Their kids don't want it. So, they'd like to hand money down to their kids. The kids want that.

They were going to put the farm on the market. Anyone could buy it. I could have ended up with shitty neighbors - and I get a goodly amount of my food from that farm and they hay my fields. (In theory, we barter but we haven't actually ever written anything down.) I also get to use any of their equipment.

I can go over there and slaughter a chicken and the only thing they'd ask is if I need help.

I can go hop on a horse and they won't even care. I could probably slaughter a cow, without even asking, but it's a bit big for one person and I'm not sure which ones they'd prefer I processed. They might ask questions with that one - but they wouldn't be mad, I don't think?

So, seeing as this is the short version, I told them that if they sold I'd give them fair market value and we'd make plans to let them remain right there until they passed away. This would save them the time and effort of putting it on the market.

(It turns out, farms are really difficult to inventory. But that's a long story.)

Well, they finally said they wanted to sell and I went through getting the complete inventory, the land surveyed, and the books cleared as accurate representations. (Farm accounting is also difficult, but that too is a long story.)

And now I'm buying the farm. It's huge and awesome. They even have baby bacons already! I might go poke the bacons later. They're kinda cute. I also need to tell them that everything is good for Monday.

Not yet - I still have time to change my mind. The papers aren't signed until Monday.

But, yeah... It's as good as done. If I make zero changes to the farm, it'll pay for itself in about 25 years. I won't be alive that long but that's okay. It means I won't have shitty neighbors!

It's huge, too. It's about 4000 acres (which is actually not a large plot here), but two pieces are separate. They board horses, have cows, have some oxen for showing, have various other animals, and have both an indoor and outdoor horse arena. They have trails that they keep maintained and wealthy people pay to ride rented horses on them. They raise some crops to sell at a farmer's market and they sell milk, eggs, and hay. They sell some beef and poultry. They also process animals, including game, for people - as well as hunters who come in to hunt the area.

Most importantly, they have a giant excavator! I'm not kidding. I'm gonna chuck a car with it. Well, first I'm going to do the math and figure out if it's going to break. If it's likely to do serious damage to the equipment then I probably won't chuck a car with it. Probably... I just might get drunk sometime and think it's a great idea.

There's all sorts of trails. You can bring your truck!

Also, do you know anything about restored WWII Jeeps?
