John Green?
JUST KIDDING!!!!
I read a lot of sci-fi and much of it from the late 90's and early 2000's. Stuff like Vernor Vinge and Alistair Reynolds. Certainly not 2018 but not that old. And maybe not intellectual in the sense of philosophical non-fiction but it seems well-written and imaginative. Talented. Far better than King who I think is a bit of a hack.

Serious literature has disappeared up its own orifice on both sides of the atlantic, this has been going on for decades. Why I don't know, maybe the intellectuals are not interested in writing anymore?
It's been happening for a while now... I've accepted this and can't wait for the entertaining spectacle of what happens when this ride is finally headed off the cliff.

Have you noticed that the most successful men tend to have exactly two children, both daughters? I see this all over tech organizations.
I don't think this is an accident. I think maleness is being removed from humanity. Of course we're to end up with a less intellectual humanity.

If you're an adult why would you still be reading fiction? Fiction is for women and children; read a fucking book.

The sci-fi I read wouldn't appeal to women or children, I think.

Good fiction is better than any movie or tv show out there. You can't always work on stuff, sometimes you need to relax or you just get worn out.
Currently reading 1984. That's some good fiction.
