Anyone have a link to the actual study? The link in this article doesn't go anywhere.

Wow, linked from louderwihcrowder, to rare.us, to cnsnews, to where I found it here. For $40... Why do I have to pay for a cdc study? Don't they take my taxes anyways?

Edit: nevermind, found the free download button cleverly hidden directly below.

Edit2: Whoah, 110pg with 10pg of forward. I'm not even studying that much for my finals.

There's another study that's more concise: https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles/165476.pdf

Relevant quote on page 9:

According to these results, guns are used far more often to defend against crime than to perpetrate crime.

God, they need to proofread their articles. I didn't even finish it and I found several mistakes.

It looks like the page has been removed by SSRN between April 21 and today - several sites I checked all linked to the same page, which is now gone. Here is what I found in the Internet Archive, but I wasn't able to download the linked PDF from there.

I wonder if guns as a deterrence is factored into that stat in any way, or if they're even more beneficial than that stat alone would suggest.

No, the opposite is true.

Usually crime is reported, due to there being a victim. Self defense isn't because the person refused to be a victim.

Yes. I imagine the net effect would be several times greater benefit to society, all things considered.

One thing is certain.. guns in the hands of everyone is healthier than guns in the hands of just bad people.

Maybe someone can place an FOIA request for the information through MuckRock?
