If it wasn't for used games I wouldn't be a gamer. It's as simple as that. I just wouldn't be able to afford games.

For sure, this is an issue a lot of people face. There are ways that this could be addressed as people wish to move to digital, but until they are, used game sales play quite an important role in the industry. For now I would say we still need them in their current system. I do hope that we can move to a digital marketplace though. The ability to lower prices by not having the costs associated with actual copies in stores is great for the consumer(in regards to pricing) and retaining the same profits for the developers. But the current mindset won't allow for it to really work that way. Issues with internet connectivity, trading, publishers being money hungry, killing store profits, etc. We won't be there for a while, and I suspect it will be a rocky road.

If someone doesn't want to buy the game new, they simply won't. If a static price was introduced with no alternative, a lot of us would stick to our current libraries or good free games.

As a consumer I go for whatever is cheaper. For the few disk based games I buy almost all of them are used. I think what publisher/devs are doing now is trying the games as a service route. They try to nickle and dime us on dlc to try to get consumers to keep there games while milking them for money. I wish they would just release good games with quality dlc to persuade us to keep the game. For example if Witcher 3 sucked and I owned it on disk I would've sold it after beating it and not waited for the new dlc or kept it for a 2nd/3rd play through. (small tangent) I wish game keys were treated like game disks were after playing a game through steam/origin/uplay/gog whatever, that I could just sell the key to someone else and have it removed from my library.

If EA, Ubisoft, etc want to make money on used games so badly, they can open up a store. It's not like they can't afford it. They want to have their cake and eat it, too- they want income from used sales without the expense of running a store that buys/sells games.

When you buy a used anything, 8 out of 10 times (just a guesstimate) that money isn't going to the company that made it.

The only reason I own consoles at all is because of used games and buy 2 get 1 free bargains. I would strictly be on PC if it was not available.
