I doubt I'll ever make my own. I've thought about it and have opted to not invest the time. I approached this company to make this year's batch and we are going to do the same thing this coming year.
I have 400 acres, a little more, and we harvest half the acreage each year. So, about 200 acres of berries get harvested each year. Each acre averages about 2.5 tons, 5000 pounds, of berries with some variation depending on growth conditions. I try to sell the berries to everyone but the canning company as they are the lowest paying but they take any and all berries we have.

You have to do what's best for you, of course. Those fields are surprisingly beautiful. Also, if you can get somebody to make your wine for you, then why not. Keeps them in business too. People like the idea of fresh, local produce. I know I prefer to make my mead with Ontario honey and fruit. Also, that's a lot of fruit to harvest.

Yeah, we pay people to harvest it. I bought the acres to help the guy out of a financial jam and may actually see if I can get more. I have grown pretty fond of it.
As for the wine, they charge a premium for it. It seems to have sold well and the only remaining wine is from their personal stash. They aren't a large vendor. They only made about 2000 bottles.
