Yeah, no, doesn't work. At least not on all laptops.Additionally, really shatty headphones will double as microphones since the mechanics and equipment is the same.

Pointlessness... IF your shit is compromised this shit would've no effect. Just a mock driver. Then remotely turn it on and off.
I am not sure if that's entirely true. Laptops could have multiple channels of mic input that aren't necessarily hardwired with the bypass. So you might feel "safe" when the mic remains active. If your machine isn't compromised, you could just disable the driver or simply put a tape over. If you want to be hardcore about it, then open the case and snap out the mic.

Good tip, I saw a dude try this before but just shoved an unused pair of headphones into the socket. I had to burst his bubble and show audio was still being recorded the circuit for a speaker is the same really as a microphone so he had just plugged two mics into his laptop!
