Kinda seems like this should be in /v/technology or something like that; it certainly isn't news, in the usual sense.

But also: another good reason not to use Google products where a viable alternative exists (e.g. Firefox).

Well, obviously I disagree. But you haven't really given us any grounds for discussing that disagreement, have you? :P

Google is starting to do some weird things with Chrome. First they blocked all extensions not on their store, which effectively makes it harder to tamper with YouTube. Now they try to block torrent sites?

I'm glad I switched (back) to Firefox a while ago. FF used to give me memory problems but it's been much better lately.

Same, I switched to FF mainly for privacy concerns but I've been happy with it.

Firefox uses SafeBrowsing from Google too. Since the last update also on Linux and MAC.

Also with the next Firefox version all Extensions must be signed by Mozilla (Source).

I am glad I made the switch away from Mozilla products. If you make the same decisions Google made for their product, make sure you have the better product, because either you have to be first or be better.

So if you don't like Opera, don't trust chrome or ff... what's left? IE?

Recently switched back to FF, no regrets (it's way way faster than when I picked up Chrome).

Yup, it used to be a laggy POS but now it's great!

Yeah.. Chrome has been getting reeaaaal bloated, too. Terrible performance on my laptop for a browser, it needs not be so laggy/freezy. :( Some of the conveniences are handy on a personal laptop, but it won't last if it just keeps getting worse.

Their main goal wasn't to stop problematic websites.

Don't do it Google... I'll use IE in spite of this...

Try Firefox! Or if you really want to use Google, turn off automatic updates (it's a real bitch to do it though)

I'll just go ahead and use Opera instead. IE would be the death of me.

Still, browser migration isn't that hard :D

Meh, Google is right. Many of those websites have a massive 'Download' button which downloads a random .exe, meanwhile hiding the actual torrent/magnet link.... HAH! Got you. That was before I read they blocked sites like Torrentz and KickassTorrents, which at least for Torrentz certainly contain no such things.

I prefer my browser not censor the sites I visit.

Google should just make a safe browsing extension that does this.

I changed to Firefox immediately after seeing the orange screen. Google is fast becoming the enemy.
