Last farcry I played (quite awhile ago as I think it was 2) i went in with no experience from 1 and had no issue, that said I would give it a week or two to see what people are saying about the later game and any major bugs, I don't trust quality control from ubisoft.

It’s made for the dudebro audience. If you’ve played any FPS before you will be able to pick it up very quickly.

First one is different than the rest. I like all the weapon options in 2. 3 focused more on story and 4 and 5 (what I know of) seem like rehashes, (gameplay, and look and feel seem about the same) Different stories. The only real connection between them is title. I think there might be a minor character or 2 that makes a reappearance from 3 to 4 but I'm not 100% sure on that. All of them are really only good for 1 or 2 playthroughs (if you want to try alternate endings, etc) If I remember right 1 and 2 don't have any alternative endings or much of a difference anyway. When 2 came out the flamethrower, burning grass was fun to play with as was the mortars. I also played quite a bit of it's multiplayer. Overall they are fun to play but I don't think worth the initial price, perhaps when 25% off or something at least (for 5).

Series it is not.

Buy it used or GOTY. Better yet don't buy this microcrapactions grindfest period.

Far Cry 5‘s mission structure isn’t perfect, however. Players have to earn a certain number of “resistance points” to unlock the final story mission in each section of the map, and sometimes this requires grinding repetitive tasks like blowing up cult property or rescuing hostages. While many of the side missions are meaningful and have a lot of substance to them, some of them also require players to do repetitive and boring things, like fetch quests or destroying vehicles.

This repetitiveness is sometimes an issue in the main story as well. There are multiple missions that require players to steal a truck for another character and deliver it back to them, and liberating outposts can sometimes feel like busywork, as they all boil down to the same basic strategy. The main story is also derailed on numerous occasions by short sections where players are captured by the villains, and while this doesn’t seem like a big deal, it happens so much that it becomes almost comical, and sometimes it can interrupt the player in the middle of a mission. Generous checkpoints make this less of an issue, but it still slows player momentum.

All story's are standalone as far as I know far cry 3 is what I played. It was a pretty cool journey about growing from a weak coward to a man with the heart of a lion. Also it has pretty psychology deep villains which is nice to see.

The stories aren't connected as far as I know. Don't expect a lot of lore to wade through. I own 2 and 3, but didn't bother with 4. It looked really cool, but then so did 2 and 3. My main complaint about this series is the same as with many Ubisoft games. They release tons of awesome demo footage, but the final product is watered-down and not nearly as beautiful. It has to run on all manner of consoles, after all. For this reason, I've basically ignored the pre-release footage of 5. I'm sure the end product will look fine, but I don't want the visual letdown I got with 2 and 3 if I ever do feel like playing it.

Far Cry 3 was my first Far Cry game. i didnt have any problems getting into it, and i actually beat it. it was good, mindless fun for when i had some downtime and was bored

there was some kinda self-contained story in FC3 about saving your sister from crazed drug lords or something, but whatever. i shot baddies and blew stuff up
