Are you spending $300 or $10?
5lbs flour is $3. I buy This type of yeast which is $5. Milk is .78/gallon.
Yeast is, by far, the biggest part of the bread making budget.
Unless you include the stand mixer. That was $300. But it's multi-purpose.
Not even sure how we got here, TBH, based on the comment you're replying to, lol. I just said the biggest investments you'll have to make would be flour and yeast. Was implying they were pretty cheap.
Edit - swipe typing got me.

Bread flour - $4.29 (https://www.target.com/p/king-arthur-flour-unbleached-bread-flour-5lbs/-/A-14777576) Yeast Packet - $0.69 (that's Ralph's price, https://www.hodgsonmill.com/collections/baking-aids-ingredients/products/active-dry-yeast) Salt - $0.89 (https://www.target.com/p/morton-174-iodized-salt-26oz/-/A-13171237) Sugar - $2 (https://www.target.com/p/granulated-sugar-market-pantry-153/-/A-53087067?preselect=12941851#lnk=sametab)) Powder Milk - $4.19 (https://www.target.com/p/nestle-carnation-instant-nonfat-dry-milk-9-6oz/-/A-13898456) Butter - $3 (I'm not able to find an exact price online) Water - $0.40 if I don't use tap
That's $15.46 and most of that list (salt, sugar) will last me over a year, while 3 items will last a few months (3-5 loaves) with me only having to buy a packet of yeast to bake each loaf. I've had the bread machine since December, and I estimate I'm using less than $5 in ingredients each loaf. And this is for a Betty Crocker recipe. I've had bad luck with Fleischman's (crowned bread) and it doesn't stay usable as long.
Where are you getting milk at 78 cents a gallon?
3 cups flour, 1.5 tsp of salt, 2 tbsp sugar and powder milk, packet of yeast, 1 cup plus 2 tblsp of water, 2 tbsp of butter. Put it in the pan, light crust, 1.5 pound loaf and start. Almost 3 hours later I've got a loaf of bread. That's easily way less than $10.

I don't factor in things like salt and butter, they're incidentals that I use for other things so it's meh. I just buy all purpose flour, I use it too much to just buy bread flour.
The other prices can't straight from Walmart, as did the milk. They started running .78 gallons a couple months ago and couldn't keep it in stock so they've just kept on doing it. Lol
4 cups flour, cup milk, 1 Tbs yeast, two butter, 1 salt, 1/4 cup sugar. I think that's it... I always forget something. Makes 4-5 decent sized personal loaves. Clocks in just under .50c, if my math is close.
