Mortgage vs rent, pay 500 and no sting attached, buy a house, pay taxes, maintenance, and so on.

Rent is closer to $800 -> $1800 for a normal place. Taxes for a house are ~1,500 -> $2,000 per year. Do your own maintenance, generally a few hundred a year.

So if the purchase of the house puts you in a better financial situation then why the hell not.

It does, if you do it right. There are absolutely ways to fuck it up, the entire house-buying system is designed for it.

Man I don't know where you live but our rent was about 550 per month, and it was pretty nice.(basic living) our mortgage is 1300. That's not including winter care, septic tank care, well testing, and other maintenance that require professionals

Yeah, prices on things vary by area and amenities on the property. And having a mortgage doesn't mean you bought a house. The bank owns the house until you pay them off.
