So what you're saying is...

Mussolini did nothing wrong?

Well, i wasn't alive back then, but i suppose that's pretty much impossible... we are humans and we make mistakes. I suppose Mussolini was human too. But i also believe that Mussolini was not the criminal that many today depict and that he did many beneficial things to Italy.

This goes back to the 80ies actually. I was in elementary school (the fifth year of elementary school i suppose) and we were studying fascism in our history class. The teacher told us to go interview the elders in our village about how it was like to live under fascism. Up until then we had of course a very negative idea of fascism... we were taught this after all... but to our surprise several persons we interviewed had actually good memories of fascism and Mussolini. It was weird... why would they talk in positive terms like that if Mussolini and fascism were the evils we learned in school? Maybe Mussolini wasn't the evil they were telling us, maybe his intentions were good and he just did some very bad mistakes as every human does in his life.

So, this experience taught me that the reality is sometimes, if not always, more complex than what we are taught to believe and that it is a good idea to have an open mind even towards ideas that we dislike, especially about historical events which we didn't witness in person.
