The US is the worlds biggest importer. If the US starts protecting its manufacturers, you can bet that the exporting nations will feel the crunch.

Prices will spike for US consumers in the short term while US manufacturers spin up new, local production. This will have an effect of decreasing US unemployment, increasing wages, and raise the US economy back to where the NAFTA jackoffs promised us it would be. At this point the foreign reciprocal tariffs will lose their teeth to the increasing buying power of the US consumer.
